MEHARI SEQUAR GALLERY IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE TRAP BOB’S DEBUT EXHIBITION, “NO ONE’S GOING TO SAVE YOU.” THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY D.C. BASED ARTIST TENBEETE SOLOMON, WHOSE WORK HAS BEEN POPULARIZED BY HER MONIKER “TRAP BOB,” BRINGS HER BOLD COLORS AND GESTURES OFF THE WALL AND ONTO THE CANVAS. THE SERIES IS MADE UP OF 12 WORKS THAT EXPLORE THE EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL REALITIES OF TRANSITION IN THE ARTIST’S LIFE. AS HER FIRST EVER GALLERY EXHIBITION, TRAP BOB IS DEVELOPING YET ANOTHER AVENUE FOR HER ARTISTRY AND PRACTICE.

Throughout Trap Bob’s work the portals signify shift, but also become sites of intimacy, ritual, and monstrosity where respectability is denied, and ambiguity embraced. Each literal and figurative step provides indefinite opportunities to explore the aesthetics of freedom for the artist. Trap Bob’s work continues to be socially conscious and inspired by activism and community issues, with an aim to bridge the gap between her audience and her message.

Born in 1992 in Los Angeles, California to Ethiopian parents, Trap Bob is the founder of Trap Bob World, LLC, a freelance design and product company. Trap Bob has worked with leading corporations, brands, and organizations including Pabst Blue Ribbon, NASA, Giphy, and Viacom.

Trap Bob previously collaborated with Refinery 29 on their touring “29 Rooms” experience. Her work can be found in both the digital space and within the community, most notably through collaborations with Missy Elliot and in murals throughout the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.

*Proof of full vaccination required for all attendees.
